Ask anyone in New Orleans where they live and you won't get a city — you'll get a neighborhood. Uptown or Mid-City. Lakeview or the Marigny. Metairie or "across the lake." Here, your neighborhood says something about you, and every one of them has a personality of its own. That's what makes this such a good place to call home. It's a city built around porches and front doors, live oaks and streetcars, Sunday second lines and Friday crawfish boils. Neighbors know each other. Festivals show up on the calendar more often than holidays. And there's always somewhere to be — a parade, a pop-up, a bar with a band you'll be talking about for a week. Our corner of the map is bigger than the French Quarter, though. From the grand homes of the Garden District to the quiet brick streets of Lakeview, from the family-friendly blocks of Metairie and Kenner to the pines and small-town charm of Mandeville and Covington on the Northshore, the metro area offers a lot of different ways to live. Historic shotgun or new construction, walkable and lively or leafy and calm — it's all here, usually within a streetcar ride or a Causeway crossing of each other.
